Size: 1mm when first hatched to 15mm when fully grown

Shape: cylindrical

Colour: Whiteish with black speckles

Antennae: Not visible 

Distinguishing features: Brown head capsule, dark speckles on body  

Larvae are pests of: damp textiles.

Although very common in historic houses they rarely cause damage to collections unless they are very damp. They are often found in traps in fireplaces and often indicate a blocked flue. This is usually the only time that larvae are seen.
