Size: 10-15mm

Shape: small moth, wings folded on back

Colour: brown with dark spots

Antennae: long

Distinguishing features: Dark spots on wings giving a speckled appearance

Larvae eat: Damp textiles and other protein

Damage: Webbing and frass

Adults eat: Nothing

Often found on: Traps near chimney flues because of birds nests and dead birds in the chimney.

Although very common in historic houses they rarely cause damage to collections unless they are very damp.
