Adult beetle. Not a pest species.
 
Size: There are hundreds of species of carabid ranging from 5mm to 30mm

Shape: Head, thorax and abdomen distinct. One species commonly found on traps is Pterostichus which is about 15mm long, shiny black, distinct head with large jaws and long antennae

Colour: Generally black, but some species are brightly coloured.

Adults eat: Other insects. Adults and larvae are predatory

Larvae are not pests
 
Damage: none

Often found on: Traps near exit doors. These are outdoor insects.
