Colour: Black with grey stripes

Antennae: Very short

Distinguishing features: One pair of transparent wings and a large bulky body with big eyes.

Larvae are not pests but live in decaying animal protein.

Adults eat: Very little. Lap up body fluids.

Damage: Adult flies can cause spotting on objects.

Often found on: Adults found on windows. Large numbers indicate a dead body nearby.
