Furniture carpet beetle Anthrenus flavipes

Adult beetle.

Size: 2-4mm

Shape: rounded

Colour: variegated white, black and gold scales.

Antennae: small, tight club.

Distinguishing features: scales are circular. Adult is larger and has bigger white patches than the Varied Carpet Beetle.

Larvae are a pest of wool, fur, feathers and other animal protein.

Damage is small neat holes often with cast larval skins.

This species is not resident in the UK, but is introduced occasionally on overseas loans from southern Europe and the USA.
