Size: 1mm when first hatched to 15mm when fully grown

Shape: cylindrical with a swollen front end

Colour: creamy white with a dark head

Antennae: Not visible

Distinguishing features: Swollen front end 

Larvae are pests of:  the nutritious layer of wood between the bark and the cambium layer.
They will not attack mature wood without bark.
